Smokey Joe & the South Toe Syndicate.
“Smokey Joe” Peoples has been writing and singing songs for over thirty years. Smokey Joe’s career as a singer-songwriter began in 1983 as the primary creative force behind the Wisteria Sting Band, which was the house band for Florida Public Radio’s WUWF Radio Live program “On the Road” for over four years. Those who have seen him perform delight in his folksy, melodic voice and harmonic guitar playing. The content of his songs often make an audience laugh, cry and feel many emotions in between. The band members are: Susan Scoggins, Peggy Williams, Lenny Ski, Cole Freeman and Yves Giraud. They perform mostly original tunes and some covers we all know and love.
The Sycodelic Possums.
Although the Possums are based in Black Mountain, they have an historical connection with central Florida. Here is how they describe themselves: “The Possums have been holed up in the exact geographical vortex of the Florida peninsula for many years. They have survived on swamp cabbages and wild hog meat and doing the occasional odd painting job to buy guitar strings and BBQ sauce. Their stage show will drag you back to 1950, when murdering, cheating and drinking were things worthy of singing about.” The Sycodelic Possums are Clay and Diane Simmons, along with Ken Bailey and David Pirelli.
With inventive vocal harmonies, Passerine offers a fresh take on traditional folk and bluegrass music as well as a repertoire of original songs that range from sweet ballads to the edgier side of contemporary Americana. Founded in 2009, Passerine has been touring nationally since 2012, playing every sort of venue from intimate listening rooms to big festival stages. They are stopping by High Cove at the beginning of a 20-date northeastern tour that take them from their home base in Florida to northern Maine. This summer they are touring in support of their recently released 3rd album, “Harbingers.” Passerine is comprised of Carmela Pedicini, Sara Stovall, Doug Conroy and David Brain.
